The Jacobite steam train crossing the Glenfinnan viaduct.

We arrived in Edinburgh, via our non-eventful Aer Lingus flight, and picked up our Lexus SUV rental car. Why did such a car with low mileage have so many scrapes and dents, especially on the left front passenger side, we wondered? Why did the Hertz rental associate ask multiple times if we needed extra insurance? We were soon to find out throughout our travel in Scotland.

The drive from the airport to our Airbnb in Glensheil was breathtaking and a wonderful introduction to what Scotland provided. We stopped at a few scenic overlooks but we were on a mission. Our goal was to arrive in time to see the Jacobite Steam Train, also known as the Hogwarts Train from Harry Potter, pass over the Glenfinnan viaduct. It was a race! We could see the train tracks next to the road, watching for the train to pass us, and hoping we didn’t miss it. We were not alone in this quest as we arrived at the “spot” joined with several other tourists up on the hill ready to catch their picture. Was it worth it? We would say “yes”.

On arrival at our Airbnb we were greeted by our lovely hosts. We were also looking forward to the washing machine and tumbler. There’s only so far you can stretch wearing the same socks. The Airbnb had a view of the inlet in front of the property. We enjoyed spending 3 nights in such a peaceful place while being close to the Isle of Skye.
